The European Transport market Study 2025 will provide insights to inform the future strategic capacity planning of Europe’s rail system, which is foreseen by the European Commission’s action plan to boost cross-border rail. The project covers both passenger and freight markets and will support strategic capacity planning for the European railway network.

For this purpose, a European passenger transport demand model will be developed, based on the existing passenger transport model of the European strategic evaluation model HIGH-TOOL. Subsequently, based on passenger transport demand and the consideration of various objectives, several options for service concepts for long-distance lines of European railroad companies will be elaborated.
